A Re-Model of Sentimental Gold

A Re-Model of Sentimental Gold

The power of sentiment in jewellery has always been very alluring to me. That these small objects can hold such meaning, mostly unknown to anyone but their owner, is almost magical. I've been doing quite a few remodels recently, some from just unworn pieces that just don't feel right anymore, and a few from inherited gold that belonged to someone really special, and its new guardian wants to take it on its next chapter to carry on the story.

I was sent a lovely, heavy 22ct gold wedding band and an 1980s diamond-set belt bangle that belonged to the owner's mother. The family wanted to share the gold amongst the two daughters and three granddaughters by remodelling the jewellery into 5 necklaces.

We decided to melt the gold together to cast into 5 heart pendants, and we'd set the diamonds flush into these. Then new chains would be added to finish off.

Each heart was sand cast from a wax model, this is the only way to use only the sentimental gold, without adding any 'new' gold into the mix.

The weight of each heart is really nice to hold, and I'm very happy to say that the family are delighted with them. These were a real joy to make for all of those reasons!
